Vinyl Stickers

I've checked a couple companies online, and the cost for fullcolor (spot colour not necessarily cheaper) window vinyl stickers starts from around 50 £ for one A3 and then about 15 per extra A3. Other options may be buying empty vinylstickers and screenprinting logos on them (extra work, but should come cheaper). Or there is the possibility to get sticker-type clear material printed in the print bureau here in Camberwell, with the material bought form the shop. That is however only available in A4. (have checked online, and no company seemed to supply a3 inkjet selfadhesive clear material.) Plus it has got a rather cheap plasticky look and feel to it.

Official Sponsorship letter - amend as necessary

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to seek financial sponsorship on behalf of a new illustration collective exhibiting together for the first time as part of London’s Free Range Festival, Europe’s largest graduate art and design show that attracts well over 100,000 visitors each year.

All the individuals exhibiting are graduating this year from Camberwell’s prestigious Illustration course that nurtured the outstanding talents of Sara Fanelli, Brett Ryder and Paul Cox. This new exhibition, set to present the future of creative illustration will take place on the 28th June - 2nd July in the highly conspicuous G3 Gallery on the shop floor of the Truman Brewery. To celebrate the exhibition we are producing a professional quality catalogue, designed by the creative director of the Less Common magazine (www.lesscommon.co.uk). The publication will serve as a reference book for contemporary illustrators who are not only up-and-coming, but also at the forefront of the industry for producing new and original imagery.

Among the many talented illustrators exhibiting in the show, some recent outstanding achievements were awarded to Jens Blank, Cat Roissetter and David Fulford who were short listed for the prestigious V&A Illustration award in the student category, out of over 300 applicants nationwide. Other achievements went to Nick Reyniers who became a member of the AOI for his witty caricatures, and David Fulford who exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery as part of the BP Portrait Award. More recently Anna Benner was invited to presented her research on the ’animated adaptations of Alice in wonderland’ at the Copenhagen Danima animation conference 2006. These are to name but a few of the notable successes from this vibrant and experimental collective of illustrators.

To see individual artist portfolios and more information about the exhibition, please visit:
http://www.free-range.org.uk/cgi-bin/exhibition.pl?yearID=12&exhibitorID=365&exhibitionID=412

We need to raise £4100 for the hire of the galley and a further £3000 for the printing of the exhibition catalogue, making £7100 in total. We are offering our sponsors a whole (b5) page in the catalogue to advertise their business. 2000 copies will be available for free at the show. As well as this, sponsors have the option to display their name on a vinyl sticker (no larger than standard A3) in the gallery window. This is a great opportunity to advertise to large numbers of people who will be visiting the exhibition, and the Free Range Festival as a whole.

I would be most grateful for your support, and look forward to hearing from you soon,

Many thanks,

Sponsership...

Hi Guys,

Sorry I'm not ever around, I seem to have some kind of phobia of leaving my desk at the minute, but I just thought I'd let you know I've just e-mailed the book publishers I worked for for my placement last year for money help, and I've asked my dad who's on the board of governers at a rather la-de-dar posh school (unfortunately my old school) to see if he can get me some contacts from rich mummys and daddys who want to 'invest' in our future somehow. The school is constantly getting money raised for all sorts and one time there was an auction held there and a plain old brick - 'belonging to the school's very foundations' (i kid you not, and no it doesn't make any sense) was sold for £300 for charity. Anyway I thought it was worth a shot as they all practically throw their money about. I'll let you know asap if we get any fruition from that.

Also, erm... I've not submitted any work for my catalogue page other than the line drawing, personal statement and my name, should that've been done already?

Jenn x

sponsors and myspace

Ok,
moneywise it doesn't look that dark now. We can cover the space with what we have, but nothing else. So we still need to raise money.
If you know anyone, ask them for sponsorship. Pages in the catalogue will be allocated accroding to financial ontribution.
Also, try and send our sponsorship letter (email David for a copy) to companies, and when you've done that, post them her.
So far Rosie has sent out letters to
HSBC BArclay's LLoyd's Abby Natwest Carphone warehouse, snappy snaps Tmobile orange BT 3 Vodafone Cass Art and Magma.
Jens has contacted Lufthansa, David the Guardian, me an obscure little company called HPYtv, Beci Habitat...
But none of that has produced any money yet, so get raising!

Fundraiser parties at the funky monkey and the crypt are looked into.

And we need drink sponsorship.

Finally, beci has created a mypace for the show, as well as a hotmail account. Illusdegreeshow@hotmail.com (i think)
And www.myspace.com/illustrationshow

That's the meeting today,

A huge thanks to everyone who put work into our show, especcially Rosie, David and Ali.

That's all folks!

meeting and sponsorship things

What a day!
I don't know about everyone else, but this meeting today was intense.
I've contacted someone I know (and just remembered again) for sponsoring, but their company is remarkably skint all the time, so i don't know.

However, while browsing I came upon this site, which lists lots of companies telephone nos, and is a sponsorship devoted site. http://www.hollis-sponsorship.com and then go to the a-z directory. I guess it'd be best if we split the companies among ourelves next week along with a little briefing about what to say from someone who doesn't think phones are scary.
I'm off to buy a lottery ticket now ;)

jumble sale

For any of you that didnt get my email, the jumble sale extravaganza is tomorrow! Feel free to come and spend a couple of quid.

thank you so much to everyone that donated jumble - there's surprisingly nice stuff!

Im selling it all quite cheap as people generally dont have that much cash, or the will to spend it, at college - we all know how tight students are. Also its almost guaranteed to all sell if its cheap, and we've got enough for about three jumble sales, so we've got nothing to lose - I hope I haven't offended anyone by selling their stuff at low prices!
Maybe you won't think theyre low and I'm just an idiot..

MONEY - FINAL DEADLINE

most of you will have read my email, but im putting it up here too just so everyone knows.
the FINAL FINAL deadline for degree show money is FRIDAY 2ND MARCH.
David put the wrong date in his email - it is not 23rd february.

this is fifteen days away, so anyone who hasnt paid should at least be able to borrow it by then.
if anyone has any problems please talk to me or david. - I have emailed everyone and put up signs in the studio, so if you dont talk to us by 2nd march, then im afraid we have done everything we can, but we cant accept any more money. we really need to have it all by then.

also you all know that we need to pay the deposit in this next week and are still a couple of hundred short - this is urgent so please dont wait until the deadline to pay, get it in as soon as you can. I posted the details up here already so you all know how to pay.

sorry to hassle you all so much.

Curation

There are some quite nice wooden frames hanging out in the studios (in the little attic hideaway in 1st year studio mainly). I thought, it might be nice if we had a frame each and made work to go inside, so we can have a wall where all of us are represented... I have seen an exhibition of Andy Warhol illustrations in timothy taylor gallery, which I think is well curated and terribly simple: wood frames in clusters and quotes screen printed directly onto the wall. What do people think? It would mean less individual space, of course, but maybe it would be nice to have something communal? So far I have counted 37 frames & there are some different shapes and sizes...

COLLEGE FUNDING: AN UPDATE

Christopher Sharrock wrote:
Dear David,
I have been reading your proposal, and would be grateful if you could clarify how much funding you think you will be able to raise yourself, and how much you will need from us? A costings breakdown would also be very useful.
I look forward to hearing from you shortly.
Regards, Christopher Sharrock

So I wrote:
Dear Christopher,
the break down is as follows:
£ 4500 gallery space in the Truman Brewery. (£2500 deposit)
£ 3000 printing catalogue.
each illustrator taking part in the exhibition is contribiting £100. I estimate that £2500 - £3000 can be raised this way, basically enough for the deposit. We are also organising further fundraising events such as music events at the corsica studio as well as jumble sales to muster the rest of the money for the space.
We are also looking at sponcorship and considering selling ad space in the catalogue, but realy Chris I like to think this is were you come in. I am aware that the graphics department are given financial support for the production of their catalogues, and i hope that budgets can be fairly distributed to include the illustration course as well.
we would greatly appreciate the support
many thanks
David

MONEY!

my god this blogger things driving me nuts, i created an account whilst drunk last night and cant remember anything - just had to do it ALL again..
Anyway - here's the deal with the money: I have opened an account with lloyds that will open on friday (not today). i thought it took seven days but it turned out to be seven working days so next friday is the day. As im sure you all know, its a hundred pounds each and can be deposited in the following ways:
1) cheque - made payable to illustration degree show and given to me - Ill be in probably every day next week.

2) deposited directly into the account - as of friday you can pay the money directly into lloyds (theres one by the green), but you must must MUST keep the receipt and give it to me. its going to get complicated if i have to look through all the money figuring out what comes from who.

3) sent online - you can transfer it to illustration degree show via online banking, and just make sure you put your name in the reference box so I can see who's paid.

please dont bring cash in, i dont want to get mugged! (plus ill probably spend it on sandwiches)

If you havent seen the sign in the studio, Im putting on a jumble sale soon (ill let you know when), please bring in your jumble! If we sell plenty of stuff we can make around another hundred, which cant hurt if we do a couple of 'em.

I think we need to start organising fundraisers - i dont know if the fundraising/sponsorship people would like to have a meeting before weds so we could have something organised before the meeting - let me know.

we are trying to figure out as quick as we can who is actually going to pay and be involved, and who isnt, then we can sort out some more specific things and get an idea how much money we need. I think Ali's going to send an email asking who's doing what, so please let her know asap.

oh, and the catalogue people (sorry this is really long i havent spoken to anyone all day) - im not sure if 2000 is enough - is that how many they usually do? coz i know there's way over 2000 coming to the college show alone and thats the main place that they'll get picked up.

ok ill leave you all alone now.
gimme your money.

catalogue

hello everyone, we really need 3 pieces of work from you all by next wednesday (17th) so we can start designing a mock-up catalogue. But don't worry, they DO NOT necessarily have to be the actual pieces you want to submit for the final book, it's just so we can start laying things out on indesign - something you've already done that is quite typical of your work would be fine.
I have contacted the printers who produced last year's catalogue and they're going to get back to me with an estimation of the cost - I told them 2000 copies but if anyone has more of an idea how many you think we'll need please let me know! Ta, and please get that work to us as soon as you can. My email is: paper.horse@virgin.net or you can leave it in the studio under the notice (photocopies are fine, I don't want to risk original work going missing!) Amy xx

minutes 10.01.

We've been pencilled in for a space in the truman brewery. For 4500pounds, deposit 2500 pounds.
Payment in cheques (100) goes to rosie, made to Illustration degreeshow.
Account opens next week wednesday for direct paying in.
If you deposit, keep receipt.
The free range offers not only the space but also publicity through their catalogue and website, where we can submit / upload images.
Rosie's organising a jumble sale, so bring stuff in.
Designs for tshirts for topman should be submitted to bea on A4 paper.
That's it for now.
Come to the meeting next wednesday for more detail and info.

meeting / money

hello team degree show!

er.. i think we agreed last term that we'd all meet up every wednesday
at
2.30, so im just reminding you all that we're meeting this weds in the
studio. Im setting up a bank account tomorrow so ill give you the
details
about paying your 100 on weds - basically you will either need to bring
in a
cheque, or deposit it directly in the account and KEEP THE RECEIPT or i
will
think youre lying and spend your money on jewels.
the sooner we can get our money together the better, because, as you
will
hear on weds, we are "pencilled in" for a really nice room in the
truman
brewery a week after the degree show, but we are second to another
group of
people. it would probably do us a lot of good to run at them with
fistfuls
of cash before these other people can, so the sooner we have money, the
better our chances i reckon. (its a little more complex than this but
bla
bla you get it). also, as most of us just got our loans, its the best
time
for everyone to fork out a hundred quid.

some of you already know all this and more - sorry for boring you.

anyway - see you all tomorrow or weds, where we will have discussions
aplenty.

love rosie x
